Boko Haram Threatens Residents Of Maiduguri With Attacks, UNIMAID Too

boko-haram-3Palpable apprehension has gripped residents of Maiduguri, the Borno State Capital, as the dreaded Islamist sect, Boko Haram has threatened to attack selected areas of the city.

The insurgents had carried out a well-coordinated attack on the city including military bases about a fortnight ago but this time around they have singled out the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) as the next target of their planned onslaught.

Apart from the University, the sect also warned residents of Maiduguri to gear up for another round of attacks for allegedly collaborating with security agencies in the fight against terrorism.

A security source disclosed that the Boko Haram insurgents also warned residents to steer clear of Federal Roads such as the busy Maiduguri-Damaturu-Bauchi Road and the Maiduguri-Damboa-Biu-Gombe Road.

The threat purportedly warning travelers to avoid the strategic highways that connect Maiduguri to other Northeast and North-Central states is coming at a time when there is increase in vehicular movement as people are expected to travel for Christmas and New Year.

The source said, “For now the city looks calm but there is so much tension. We just thank God that another attack has not taken place after the one that took place last month.

“But Maiduguri is tense now because Boko Haram threatening to attack selected places in the city.

“They wrote saying that they would attack the University of Maiduguri; they also warned people to stay away from Federal highways such as the Borno-Yobe highway and the Maiduguri-Biu highway. Both you know, are major highways”.

The source hinted that to make real their threat, “Already, they have launched an attack on motorists slaughtering several of them along the Maiduguri-Biu Road. I don’t have the exact number of those killed in the attack”.
