Basketball: Pillars Jump Off Continental Campaign against Champions Primeiro d’Agosto Tonight.

Kano Pillars Basketball Club will look to get off to a fine start when they begin their campaign in the ongoing African Club Championship for Men in Tunisia today.

The Nigerian champions, who are the country’s sole representative at this year’s tournament, will be up against the defending champions Primeiro d’Agosto of Angola as the battle for Group B’s supremacy heats up.

The Kano State-owned team ensured they returned to the championship by winning all of their five games in the FIBA Africa Zone 3 Club Champions qualifiers in Liberia in October.

Pillars’ best performance on the continental stage has been a fifth-place finish in Rwanda in 2009 and Benin Republic in 2010.

The Angolans won their opening match on Thursday 78-66 against arch rivals Recreativo Libolo.

To proceed from the group into the knockout stage of the competition, Pillars will have to conquer back-to-back Arab basketball league and current Libyan champions, Al Ahaly, Angolan powerhouse Libolo and Malabo Kings of Equatorial Guinea.

The game jumps off by 20:00GMT (9:00pm Nigerian Time).
