At about 3.30 p.m., the robbers, numbering about 12, flagged down the former acting governor’s Sport Utility vehicle along Kabba-Okene highway, and opened fire.

No life was lost, however, and no injuries sustained, as the driver of the vehicle managed to escape. The windscreen of the vehicle was shattered by the bullets, and some parts of it were also damaged.

When contacted, the former lawmaker confirmed the incident. He said he had a bad feeling and asked his driver to be more alert on the road. However, few minutes later, they ran into a number of motorists whose vehicle appeared to have had some mechanical problems. One of the disguised robbers signalled for them to pass. Not knowing of what lies ahead, they continued the journey only to be flagged down abpruntly. As the robbers tried to attack them, the driver of the former governor’s car fled the scene, followed by bullets.

Mr. Olafemi praised God for saving their lives, and called on the police to be more alert in their responsibilities to the citizenry.
