GOV. SUNTAI SITTING ON A CHAIR FLANKED BY AIDES, HIS WIFE, YOUNGER BROTHER

There seems to be a crack in the family of recuperating governor of Taraba State, Danbaba Danfulani Suntai, as his relatives have distanced themselves from the joint affidavit signed by the governor’s wife, Hauwa and his younger brother – Babangida, in which the duo sought to withdraw, on behalf of the Suntai family, a suit filed by the governor against the State House of Assembly and its Speaker, Haruna Tsokwa.

Hauwa and Babangida had averred in the affidavit that Gov. Suntai and his deputy, Garba Umar “have come to an amicable understanding that it is in the interest of Taraba Sate for both of them to work together and end litigation.”

However, a meeting of the governor’s larger family in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital last Saturday, expressed dismay at the action of the duo, saying “there was never a time the family held any meeting or through any proxy mandated either Mrs. Hauwa Suntai or Babangida Suntai to swear any affidavit on its behalf concerning the on-going law suit before the high court of justice in Jalingo between Governor Danbaba Suntai and Speaker and members of Taraba State House of Assembly with a view to withdrawing the case.”

In compliance with the directive of the family meeting, the governor’s eldest sister, Esther Suntai, proceeded to the State High Court in Jalingo to swear to a counter affidavit saying, “That I know as a fact that there is no dispute between my younger brother the Executive Governor of Taraba State, His Excellency Dababa Danfulani Suntai and his deputy, His Ecellency Alhaji Garba Umar pending in any court to have called for any amicable settlement as suggested in the purported joint affidavit/letter of withdrawal of Mrs hauwa Sutai and Babangida Suntai”.

“There have been challenges along the line – the inclement national financial weather, the COVID-19 pandemic and others not so significant. But you have weathered the storm admirably and steadied the ship of state.

“The challenges will no doubt present a new format as you step into the third year. These are heightened political participation, pressure to deliver more dividends of democracy and increased demands from the political system. I have no doubt that you will cope nicely.

“Please continue to make the welfare of the people your biggest concern. They are the reason for the state. Without them there will be no government or any political office to occupy.

“Once again, congratulations, as I wish you a resounding success in office and every aspect of life.

“My kind regards to the good wife, Alhaja Kafayat Oyetola and the entire cabinet of the State of Osun.”
