Iyayi’s Kinsmen Demand N50bn Compensation From Kogi Gov

The traditional ruler of Ugbegunland, Edo State, hometown of former President of Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Professor. Festus Iyayi, who died in an auto crash, Wednesday on Lokoja-Abuja road, HRM, Samuel Obade I, Onojie of Ugbegunland and his people, are demanding a compensation of N50 billion to be paid to the immediate family of the late professor by the Kogi State governor, Captain Idris Wada.

In a letter dated November 13, the community wrote to the Executive Secretary, National Human Rights Commission, Abuja, on the death of its son in an automobile accident with the governor’s security details, calling for a thorough investigation for Nigerians to know the actual cause of Iyayi’s death.

Prof Iyayi was on his way to Kano, in the company of other members of ASUU, for the union’s National Executive Council(NEC) meeting, where members were expected to discuss the recent offer by President Jonathan in a bid to call off the four-month old strike, but a car in the convoy of Kogi State governor Idris Wada ran into their vehicle. Iyayi lost his life in the accident, while two other members of ASUU, the National Welfare Officer, Dr Ngozi Ilo and Dr Anthoni Emina were injured.

    I think it should ave been d governor that wud ave being killed.

  2. dnt kno wen our ppl will start thinking like humans rather dan some sub-human animals.y on earth d’u think Wada wud want 2 assa* d poor lecturer? is he a politician? dnt u think a much easier way wud’ve been 2 hire assassins who wud v finished him like a goat? it’s quiet unfortunate dat he died in d course,bt r u not aware dat even d gov’s entourage dat were involved were all equally hospitalised? or did dey jst risk dia lives by going straight 2 where he was 2 hit his head? is dat d 1st time a delegate is dying? didnt u hear of d NANS contingent of which abt 4 died,or is it bcos a gov was nt involved dat’s y it lay low? pls,i kno not Capt.Wada,neither do i know Iyayi(nt even 4rm Kogi,bt Akwa Ibom),all i am trying 2 say is dat we shdnt POLITICise d issue by heaping all d blames on sum1 who is equally a victim,bt we shud consider other factors like d road condition,attitude of d both drivers,d health condition of Iyayi as well as other necessary factors,with a view towards avoiding a recurrence… David Sylva 4rm Uyo 07030761753
