Egypt 2 Ghana 1: The Black Stars Reach a Third Successive World Cup.

Ghana became the 25th team confirmed for the 2014 FIFA World Cup finals, despite losing 2-1 to Egypt in the second leg of their playoff.

The Black Stars sealed a praise-worthy 7-3 aggregate victory, thanks to a 6-1 win in the first leg played in Kumasi last month.

Amr Zaki shot home the opening goal on 25 minutes before Gedo rifled in a second goal late on.

But Kevin-Prince Boateng struck in the 89th minute to help the West African repose their pride.

The victory marked an encouraging return for the ‘Pharaohs’ who have not played in Cairo in two years.

The hosts ignited a glimmer of hope after 25 minutes when a free-kick from Mohamed Aboutrika from outside right was not properly dealt with by goalkeeper Fatau Dauda and Zaki appeared to use his elbow to bundle home the ball.

Ghana were not interested in grabbing and instant equalizer, instead they allowed the host to press for another goal.

The hosts almost did when a shot from Gedo was cleared off the line by Jerry Akaminko, with Dauda again fumbling with an aerial ball.

Egypt eventually increased the tally through Gedo on 86 minutes when he collected a pass from Mohamed Salah and blasted low past Dauda.

Ghana capitalised on some lass defencive play in the North Africans’ half when Asamoah Gyang found space on the right to fire in a low cross which was turned in by Boateng.

It will be a third successive World Cup appearance for one of Africa’s foremost soccer-playing nation, Ghana, and heartbreak for Egypt who has not appeared at the World Cup since Italia 90, despite their dominance in the continent.
