EFCC Arrests Gov. Lamido’s Sons

efccIn what might be a foretaste of things to come for the group of seven (G7) governors in the New Peoples’ Democratic Party (nPDP), two children of one of the governors – Alhaji Sule Lamido of Jigawa State, have been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

The children identified as Aminu Lamido, a 2010 graduate of Mass communication of Bayero University, Kano, and Mustapha Lamido, an alumni of the University of Abuja, were arrested in Kano State late Thursday night and have been flown to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja where they will be grilled by a crack team of investigators.

Recall that Aminu Lamido was arrested sometime in December 2012 en route Cairo, Egypt, at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, MAKIA, for failure to declare the $50,000 he had on him.

Though Aminu had since been prosecuted and convicted by a Federal High Court in Kano, this latest development might not be unconnected to last December’s episode as investigators continued to dig in on how the governor’s son came by such amount of money.

It was also learnt that Aminu and Mustapha’s arrest may also be connected with investigations into the account and finances of the 27 local councils in Jigawa state.

Meanwhile, Governor Lamido has reportedly abandoned the Nigeria Governors’ Forum retreat taking place in Sokoto for Abuja to secure the release of his children.
