35-Year-Old Man Nabbed With Live Snake, Charms, Fake $237,700

A 35-year-old, Aliyu Mutairu, was on Tuesday arraigned at an Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court for illegal possession of a live snake, charms and fake 237,700 dollars.

The prosecutor, DSP Promise Akanwa told the court that the accused was caught with a box containing a live snake, black soap, white clothes, one black pot and two live ducks among other items on Oct. 22 at 5.00 p.m. at Mobarajo Village, Ifewara near Ilesa in Osun.

He also had in his possession 2,377 pieces of 100 dollar bills suspected to be fake with the same serial numbers which he intends to inject into the nation’s economy.

According to Akanwa, the offence contravened Sections 160 (a), 213 (b) and 430 (1) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2003.

The accused is facing a three-count charge of felony, possession of criminal charms and fake currency.

However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against him.

Counsel to Mutairu, Mr W.A. Idowu, urged the court to grant him bail.

In his ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Olusola Aluko, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

He said the sureties should reside within the court’s jurisdiction and also provide three years tax clearance as part of the bail conditions.

The case was adjourned to Dec.12 for mention.
