One in five grown-ups still snuggles up in bed with their precious childhood teddy.

More than half of us still hang on to one special toy from our youth and one in 10 still plays with them, a survey found.

After teddy bears, Lego is the second most popular keepsake.

One in 10 women keep Barbie dolls and almost the same number of men cling on to an Action Man.

Almost two in 10 want to hand their old toys down to their children and one in 10 believe they are family heirlooms which could become valuable antiques of the future.

According to the research by Sky Movies, other toys that don’t get dumped because they bring back memories of happy family times are board games Monopoly and Cluedo, dominoes, the Rubix Cube, Slinky and Scalextric.

The survey found two thirds of adults felt modern toys were not as good as the ones they had as a child.

And half feel technology is to blame for children preferring iPads to play on instead of using their imagination.

TV psychologist Anjula Mutanda said: “Toys carry vivid memories. It’s not surprising many adults find it hard to let go.

“Parents like to keep a link between their childhood and their children’s experience of growing up which is increasingly difficult when the world has gone digital.”

“Classic toys such as action figures, soft toys and board games allow us to make that link.”
