Folasade Tinubu-Ojo, the daughter of former Lagos State governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu was yesterday officially coronated as the new Iyaloja- General of Nigeria.

The coronation ceremony was part of activities marking the 70th birthday of the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu 1 at the Iga-iduganran, Lagos Island local government.

Recall that the last holder of the Iyaloja-General title, late Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji, the mother of Tinubu, died on Saturday June 15, 2013, at the age of 96.

The event led to a shut-down of major markets in Lagos Metropolis yesterday as traders left the business of buying and selling to witness the coronation of their new leader.

During the installation ceremony, Oba Akiolu advised the new Iyaloja to be diligent and committed to the service of humanity.

He stressed that the position was crucial to the development of market activities in Lagos State and Nigeria at large.

Tinubu-Ojo’s selection as Iyaloja raised not a few eyebrows especially from members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who not only said the new Iyaloja was too young for the position, but also accused former governor Tinubu of imposing his daughter on traders.

However, Mrs Hawawu Asindemade, the Iyaloja General and Chairperson, Osun Market Board, dismissed criticisms that Tinubu-Ojo was too young for the position.
