National Confab Has Nothing To Offer, Waste Of Public Funds, Says MEND

NigeriaStatesMapBThe Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) has joined a cross-section of Nigerians to condemn the recently proposed National Conference by President Goodluck Jonathan as a distraction and waste of public funds.

In a statement purportedly issued by its spokesman, Jomo Gbomo, MEND said rather than hold a National Conference, the National Assembly should be charged to live up to its calling, justify its bogus salary and allowances and redress the anomalies of the Nigerian federation.

The group also stressed that the Nigerian national dialogue should focus on how to once and for all bring the menace of corruption to an end in the land.

“The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) considers the proposed National Dialogue as another deceit, a distraction, waste of public funds and time. Aside from the therapeutic benefits of letting off steam from a political perspective, it has absolutely nothing else to offer.” The group said.
