Ethiopia Tried Marking Me Out But I Knew The Goal Would Come- Emenike.

Super Eagles’ two-goal hero, Emmanuel Emenike, says he remained confident he would score against Ethiopia in Sunday’s 2-1 victory in Addis Ababa, despite been marked closely by the East African nation’s defenders.

The Fenerbahce of Turkey striker pulled the Eagles back from a one-goal deficit, after Behailu Assefa had the given the hosts a 56th-minute lead, holding off three of his markers before firing into the back of the net from outside the box; 11 minutes after the Eagles conceded.

“I was not worried at all even though they were marking me very tight,” Emenike told KickOffNigeria.com. “I knew I could score with a shot because my shots are very strong. I just wanted to get the right moment.”

The coach Stephen Keshi-led boys had to endure a relatively uneventful first-half to lash out at the Ethiopians late on in the second-half and the striker said they were not under any form of pressure.

“We were not worried. We knew that they would come at us, and we had to save our energy for the second-half,” he said.

With two away goals and a return-leg awaiting the African champions, the journey to Brazil has just reached a point where the horizon is within a visible landscape and Emenike added:

“It is not over yet, we still have to play the remaining 90 minutes at home. After that, we can celebrate.”
