Coalition Of Political Parties In Yobe Call For LG Polls

Gaidam_yobe_0The Coalition of Political Parties in Yobe on Friday insisted that the local government elections scheduled to hold in the state in December should be conducted as planned.

This is contained in a statement issued by the Chairman of the coalition, Alhaji Umar Kukuri, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Damaturu.

The statement said all the political parties were prepared for the election.

It observed that the state had enjoyed relative peace, adding that the isolated security challenges must not be allowed to scuttle the proposed election.

“The coalition of political parties in Yobe reiterates the preparedness of all political parties to participate in the local government election scheduled to hold in December, 2013.

“We call on all prospective candidates and their respective political parties to conduct themselves peacefully for a hitch-free electioneering process,” the statement said.

The coalition pledged to support security agencies and the state Electoral Commission to sustain the relative peace being enjoyed in the state.

It commended the electoral body for initiating stakeholders’ forum for political parties, politicians, security operatives and electoral officials.

“The participation of all political parties in the forum gave us the opportunity to discuss areas of concern and, we are fully prepared for the election.

“We urge the commission to remain transparent in the process for a free and acceptable election into the local government councils,” the statement further said. (NAN)
