The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control on Thursday said 60 per cent of the 47 cholera victims that died in Zamfara were women.

Prof. Abdulsalam Nasidi, the centre’s Project Director, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Gusau.

Nasidi, while on an assessment tour of the affected areas, said that the State Ministry of Health gave the figures to the centre.

He said a total of 1,057 cases were recorded in the state between Oct. 4 and 22.

“So far, we have confirmed that at least six out of the 14 local government areas are affected.

“We have instituted effective response strategy working with the state ministry of health,” the director said.

He said the state was still experiencing new cases, with Gusau having the highest number of recorded cases.

According to him, potable water supply is being restored to the affected areas, as part of efforts to contain the situation.

Nasidi assured the general public that his team would assist the state government to address the problem. (NAN)
