Traders under the aegis of National Market Women Association, Monday, stormed the National Assembly in protest, demanding that the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, call off its strike of over 100 days.

The protesters, who had been at the Ministry of Education and Office of the Head of Service, arrived the Assembly complex at 11.30a.m.

President-General of the group, Mrs Felicia Sani, who led the more than 200 protesting women, said: “We are tired of seeing our children at home. We want our children back in school. Enough of this cheap blackmail.

“We all know what they do with our year-one daughters in the university. We equally know that they sell handouts and handbooks.

“Is this not worse than corruption of the highest order?”

When asked why she did not criticise the Federal Government for failing to reach an agreement with ASUU, Mrs Sani said: “Which agreement? How do you expect lecturers in state universities to earn same salaries as Federal ones? That is impossible.

“We are not educated, but you do not expect a hotel in my village to cost same price as a hotel in Abuja.

“They are located in different places. So how can a state university lecturer earn same salary with his federal counterpart?

“We are begging them for the last time. If we come out again we may have to chase them out of this country and replace them with so many jobless Nigerians.”

    • I only laugh when pple stupidly and “ignorantly” post comments anyhow. Lecturers force girls to sleep wt them, . . . that is a stupid comment. anyway, Nigerians can continue to languish in ignorance if pple fail to c that this govt is simply deceiving pple, and is attempting to privatize education too. to cast an aspersion on a teacher e.g. as a “he goat” shows some sort of moral decadence. learn to adjust your morals for the better pls.

  6. this is a sham well coordinated by politicians to trump up support from us. y did the women not see anything wrong with what the govt is doing? y hav they not talked about the fact that their wards stay under trees to receive lectures? hav they bin to our hostels? y do they not ask the FG where all our collective wealth is going and y we dnt hav decent libraries n laboratories in our schools? is there any sphere of human endeavour where u dnt hav bad eggs? some lecturers demean themselves by sleeping with their students n extorting others. does that mean they are all bad? do the women want to tell us that alllll of them sell in the market with empty eyes n hands? are there not some bad eggs among them too who defraud innocent people? we should tell the truth always.

  7. Madam felicia,U̶̲̥̅̊ are a mother, though a political mother.U̶̲̥̅̊ are the kind of lady who doesn’t knw ur left from right. I am a student and not happy about d strike, but if anyone is crying 4 justice,he/she would come with both hands clean.U̶̲̥̅̊ just spoke out of the bribe U̶̲̥̅̊ collected 4rm federal govt.are U̶̲̥̅̊ claiming politicians don’t sleep with those dey are old enogh 2 be dia fada?indeed,yu are a market woman who is just after the profit yu make.pple like yu are d ones dat exploit ur subjects and impose on them.if U̶̲̥̅̊ had come 2 suggest a dialogue trend as to d end of this strike,ur protest would ve been justified.but yu just came 2 make shame of ursef.to tell us that yu are more corrupt dan our so-called leaders.2 doz dat sent yu,I knw dey would ve been caught up in shame cos yu embarrassed them.they 4got dat yu are a market woman and yu lack manner of presentation..U̶̲̥̅̊ suck mama felicia..

  8. madam sani has don well by carring out the duty of d useless and coward stundents who can only shot and kill their fellow student. Duo she spook like a politician but she have mk a move. Were are dose useless fool who clame to be cultist in schools? Is it dat dy dnt knw dir right? nass or no nass students shuold mk nigeria feel d heat.

  9. in my skul (unizik) my dept. music and the theater arts students learn from outside, ist dat a gud to learn? Hw do u expect us to indastand wen we are always bn distirbd by a passin cars and a litle noise, most of nigerian politicians hav more dan wat asuu is demandin in deir account, hw can a senator earn higher dan a lecturer? We shuld b sensible in our tinkin nt talkin anyhw, asuu is ryt wit wat dey are doing and deir demand shuld not be bergained cos education is d numba one tin

  10. I am tired of staying at home.d fed govt and asuu shld pls come 2 an agreement and called off dis strike.Asuu on their part shld pls consider d student and parent and called off dis strike.d student are suffering d effect of dis strike not d fed govt.

  11. Every one has expressed his/her minds, but the issue is whatever you are doing you have to look from both sides, our mothers who have spoken said the truth about what is happening in Nigeria, they spoke from their minds with anger and deep annoyance, but i what students are benefiting from this strike,is just affecting us negatively, our parents don’t have the means of taking us to abroad or a private university, we are the hope of our parents, so ASUU should know that, and for the person comparing a senator’s earning with that of a lecturer that has never happened in any country because a senator is a representative and a leader as well, though we all know they embezzle money but that is the plain truth, hungry lectures are not containted with what they earn how much is a graduate assistant lecturer collecting talkless of a senior lecturer or Prof. FG should try and honour the agreement but ASUU should also look at us the students because without the students they will be no ASUU

    • Guy, you have spoken well, Nigeria educational system was destroy by our past leaders and detectors and as such need substantial time frame to be fixed. FG under the leadership of GEJ has make one of the greatest move ever in the history of the Nigeria education system funding by setting aside such a huge amount of moni as a take-off grant to address this wrath. However those selfish and useless individual attacking his personality will not and never succeed, come 2015 he will emerge even more victorously because his govt is ordain by God. Who is man to stand against the ordinance of God? However ASUU want it, we the student will always graduate. You orphans and criminals accusing people mothers, may your insult return to your respective mothers. Nonesense. What do you guys know about university funding? and if the FG have money is it only education that is our most pressing need?. The other ignoramus trying drag us back that Nigerian student receive lecture under shade, I want to know the university. That is where I know we may be wasting energy arguing with the wrong people. Thank u mothers for the process.

  12. @ femi & ok….I doubt if u guys have mothers cos if u do, u’ll select ur words. Charity they say ,begins @ home remember….if u think its easy 2 come out & protest then give it a try so that we can applaud u. Go get some manners

  13. We are so corrupt that I’m not sure we can be revived. What makes u people tink that wen the money is gi ven that the said asuu will use it for their needs. The ones being given 2 them, wat fruit did it yeid. If their kids were in skul, will this strike be this long. I only pray God intercedes fast for Nigeria and the poor masses.we have what it takes to make Nigeria a better place but we chose not to.we are the victims and its better managing in school that staying at home bcos of strike only 2 be called back wwitot achieving a thing. So they better go with wat they are given than go wit nuftn bsides half bread is better than none.

  14. Olalekan n femi!is either you guys are lecturers or you are aiming the job in nearest future! You must be very stupid 2 insult those brave women who took to the street their pains! ASUU r being EGOCENTRIC! If the FG is not concerned with the strike, the 130bn given, wouldn’t been! B4 a lecturer is employed he or she must have bin told d salary n allowance scale. And after that getting the job, you start puttin eyes on issue that av been like this 4 ova 25yrs, claiming that agreement was reached! ASUU don’t have the interest of the students @ hat, otherwise, they cud av reconsider their stand when 130bn was given!!must it b 100%.?. ASUU r nat even ready 2 call off the strike 2dai or 2mao or even sooner if drastic steps like these r nat taken! Weather those women were hired or not, the truth is they av done wht de stupid so call NANS cud done long time ago!! When this strke is over, NANS shud b desolve!this is the time they had 2 proof they r workin. Instead of given 1wk ultimatum to infinity.GOD bless the market women n GOd bless all those who support the movement!

  15. ASUU and ASUP should be sensitive enough to know wen to shift grand. For God’s sake, they should call of dis strike. I quite agree wit ASUU over the dilapidatd nature of our universities. What are they doing with aptitude test money that runs in millions? Is high time for our Universities should device means of sustaining themselves, by going into profit making ventures as is being done abroad. FG,ASUU & ASUP should end dis show,we are tire of watching dis home movie. Aki na pawpaw

  16. It is well, i jx want to say that dont let us blame one another, we ar all seeing this in a different way,i want implore that FG n ASUU shuold reach a point of resonable percent to get things normal back.student ar nt happy with d present situation.

  17. If i were d president 4 d fact dat i’ve given dem 80% of dat money even 50% and still they refused to go bck 2 schl i’l collect d money and send all of dem bck hm and employ new lecturals cos alot of people re out der 4 so many yrs lookin 4 job, Dat would serve as a lesson. And 4 those of u sayin shit to those women who re doin wht u stupid suppose 2 do i dnt blame u, d faculty of ur reason is very very poor. Kudos to mama sani God bless u.

  18. Yes,here we all are, fighting ourselves when the real war is out there with nobody fighting it.this market women came out in there numbers, even if they where paid or not that should not concern us,what should concern us is the fact that,ASUU chairman and the FG who are so bent on making life so hard for us, have no children in any of the university in Nig,they have sent there children and grandchildren abroad, and they open their useless mouths to say they are fighting for the betterment of our children, which children?they don’t care hw long it takes,or who it affects,FG is only intreseted in the next election, and who is to say our university will really change once all the demands are meant?we are in nig,no project is ever completed.so pls let ASUU and FG put their stupidity aside and resolve this matter, because life is too short that one should spend it all on acquiring an ordinary B.sc.my peace I give unto you.

  19. Get dis right ppl, let’s not forget to say our prayers to God abt Nigeria issues. Asuu or FG are not perfect,we need to see beyond wt is happen in oda to tame dis issues.Der are tins we don’t knw n may not undast, dats y ders an english word knwn as Help. Let’s ask God for help, for wisdom an directn to solve dis problems….der must be a way out.Let’s keep our fingers crossed n say wat u’r sure of, shut ur month or think b4 u ever speak. Cioa
