The award which was in recognition of his effort at steering policies at the apex bank to drive macroeconomic stability through stabilised prices, exchange rates and even financial system over the last one year was conferred on him at the weekend by the ‘Emerging Markets’ in the United States.

Emerging Markets said the governor was honored for bringing down inflation to single digit that has been so high for so long which they said “is impressive enough”.

“But stabilising price expectation that stayed below 10 percent mark is even more impressive. And that is what our award winner for the best central bank governor for the sub-Saharan Africa has achieved over the last year”, they added.

Commenting, Sanusi said having won the award three times shows consistency considering the difficulty in maintaining stability especially in the today’s global scene.

“We have worked day and night through the banking crisis and later working towards restoring stability and now working towards financial inclusion and payment system transformation.

“It is great honour for me, this is going to be my last annual meetings. I thank all my colleagues for their support; I thank the government for the confidence reposed in me by the appointment. I have worked with three wonderful finance ministers, two of whom are in this hall this night who supported me immensely. Without the support of the finance minister and the government, we would not have achieved what we achieved”, Sanusi said.
