PDP Crisis: Atiku Living In Past Glories, Fool’s Paradise – Northern Group

Published

on

new-pdp-atiku1A group within the Peoples Democratic Party has directed its members in the 19 northern states to take legal measures to close down any branch or office belonging to the new faction of the party that emerged a week ago.

The group, known as the Peoples’ Democratic Party Arewa Democrat, reiterated its support for the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan and described the recent unfolding events in the ruling party as an attempt by enemies of Nigeria and those who seek to derail the administration.

In a statement signed by Garba Kofar- Mata and Musa Dogara Chairman and Secretary respectively, on Sunday, the group urged Mr. Jonathan to be “extra-ordinarily careful in dealing with the Chairman of the Board of Trustee, BOT, of PDP, Chief Tony Anenih whose comments since the extra ordinary convention of the party two weeks ago has shown that he is at home with the dissidents.

“How could the Chairman of the BOT who is properly briefed on developments in the party and had previously taken a trip round the country on reconciliation be massaging the ego of the dissidents and saying they have genuine grievances? It only shows that Anenih is still dinning and winning with his friends in Peoples’ Democratic Movement, PDM, where he was a prominent chieftain until the renegades registered the party few weeks ago”, the statement added.

The group also enjoined the Bamanga Tukur led leadership of PDP and the presidency to ignore the “ranting” of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and his cohorts as the former Vice President, who they described as a “nomadic politician”, is trying to be relevant in the political scheme of things post 2015.

“Atiku is living in past glories and fool’s paradise, whoever follows him will have himself to blame for committing political suicide. No amount of religious and ethnic politics can make him achieve his goal of ruling this country as it is God that gives power,” the statement added.

While throwing its weight behind the president’s reelection bid, the group said it had no inhibition or encumbrance in recommending Mr. Jonathan as the party’s standard bearer in 2015 adding that the current dispensation has been “too fair” to the northern part of the country.

The group advised those not convinced by their submission that the present administration has been fair to the north to compare from 1999-2008 and the north under President Jonathan since he took over from late President Umaru Yar’adua.

“There are so many leakages in the Lagos State Government purse. Take this AlphaBeta; who owns this AlphaBeta? What is the essence of the AlphaBeta? Where else in the world would you have an Inland Revenue Service, who have their own staff who are supposed to go out and collect the fees, but you have an independent company to be supposedly collecting the internally generated revenue from our state?

“It grosses around N50bn (about $130m) a month and you know how much that company (AlphaBeta) is paid 15% of it, that’s N7.5bn in thirty days going to the company, that is a leakage, that is sacrilegious.”
