Eto’o, 32, signed a one-year deal with Chelsea from Anzhi Makhachkala as a free agent last month and is likely to start from the bench.

“He will be selected and when selected as a striker you play- you start the game or finish the match,” said Mourinho.

Romelu Lukaku was exempted from Mourinho’s attacking options on transfer deadline day, sold to their weekend opponents Everton, thereby leaving the manager with Fernando Torres and Demba Ba to contend with Eto’O.

“He will play his first minutes for Chelsea. He has natural appetite for goals and gives experience to a team from midfield to attack everyone is very, very young.

“It is the area where I make more changes during the match,” Mourinho added.

The Cameroon all-time leading goalscorer won the 2010 Champions League under Jose Mourinho at Inter Milan and the Portuguese knows how best to exploit his abilities in the attack.

Eto’o recently told his Cameroon teammates he would be quitting international football to continue with his academy after his professional career got a major boost at Stamford Bridge.
