Jonathan’s 2015 Ambition, Real Reason Why ‘New PDP’ Was Formed, Says Fmr Senate President

The Senate President in the short-lived Third Republic, Senator Ameh Ebute has dismissed the claim by former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, seven Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP governors, and others that their decision to form a parallel EXCO of PDP was to salvage it from those who have hijacked the party, saying the real motive remains the interests of the various dissenters in 2015 presidential election.

Ebute, who is the chairman, Congress for Equality and Change, CEC, expressed optimism that members of the faction would retrace their steps back to the ruling party, just as he warned that there cannot be ‘two PDP’ in the country.

The elder statesman was reacting to the split in ranks of the PDP which resulted in Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and governors Sule Lamido (Jigawa), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso (Kano), Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto), Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu (Niger), Ahmed Abdulfatah (Kwara), Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers) and Murtala Nyako (Adamawa) and their loyalists, staging a walkout during the PDP national convention held at the Eagles Square, in Abuja, to form their own faction of the party led by Alhaji Abubakar Kawu-Baraje.

According to Ebute, “Their ambition is the presidency and since they know that President Goodluck Jonathan is entitled to a second term in office, they don’t want to wait until 2019 that is the honest thing that is the problem.

“So, they should call a spade- spade, as there is nothing like a new ‘PDP’. I am sure the leadership of the PDP and the leadership of this country will bring the aggrieved party members together and they will trace their way back.

“I describe them as aggrieved party members for reasons that are obvious, and their reasons are to become president and vice president of this country. That is all,” Ebute stated.

“They are not the main reasons for their action. They call themselves a new PDP. PDP does not have two certificates of registration. The main certificate of registration is with the National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur and the secretariat.

“So, when they talk about the new PDP, it beats my imagination. There cannot be two PDP in Nigeria. If eventually the peace move that will be put up by the leadership of the PDP fails, I foresee that they may move to the new Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM).

“But they cannot have two PDP in the country. There is nothing like a new PDP. They don’t have a certificate of registration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and they cannot sponsor any candidate on the platform of their so-called PDP.

“That shows that they have not completely left PDP. And that is why I told you that when the leadership of the real PDP makes effort to bring them back, they will definitely come back,” Ebute affirmed.

The word of an elder is always accompanied with Wisdom to them that apply it. Let the whole nation remember that some few days ago those said Governors were rumoured to have floated their own party and now its coming to lime light that it has been their game plan to formulate false reasons to their decamping. It amazes me that many enjoy such rebellious actions of power seekers. Just because their tenures of office would soon expire and they are impatient to wait ahead they want to force their way into higher positions now before they become irrelevant to themselves. We would not allow such insurgents at all. Governor Amaechi compel Rivers State Assembly to suspend and investigate Obio/Akpor LGA chairman just because he felt he has lost the state PDP party structure. Last time he suspended 11 duly elected LGA Chairmen for his selfish reasons. Why do pride always come before a fall? Watch out the end result to those fellows. We need reasonable men Like you an elder who have critically examined and also foresaw the hand writing from those gold diggers.

Wisdom is really profitable to direct. The voice of an elder is wiser than that of a kid or a youth. Never Knew that all the said false rumour abt my Governor Amaechi was true unto he started unfolding them by following the Northern vultures seeking for powers with their Life. We have always respected you ever since you came in and your works you did for the state but with such attitude there are more questions to ask you after your office. You are making Rivers state people look like slaves to those foolish leaders directing your course with them bet me you will fail. You have sinned against God for being rebellious to the President making his tenure ungovernable to fault his works God uplifts the gentle and brings down the proud check your scriptures well.

“There have been challenges along the line – the inclement national financial weather, the COVID-19 pandemic and others not so significant. But you have weathered the storm admirably and steadied the ship of state.

“The challenges will no doubt present a new format as you step into the third year. These are heightened political participation, pressure to deliver more dividends of democracy and increased demands from the political system. I have no doubt that you will cope nicely.

“Please continue to make the welfare of the people your biggest concern. They are the reason for the state. Without them there will be no government or any political office to occupy.

“Once again, congratulations, as I wish you a resounding success in office and every aspect of life.

“My kind regards to the good wife, Alhaja Kafayat Oyetola and the entire cabinet of the State of Osun.”
