Jonathan Tasks Judges On Quick Dispensation Of Justice

JudgePresident Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday called on judges to always ensure quick dispensation of justice.

The president made the call when he inaugurated the Federal High Court Complex, Lokoja.

Represented by Gov. Idris Wada of Kogi, Jonathan said the quick dispensation of justice would help rekindle the confidence of litigants and the general public in the judiciary.

Jonathan said: “the cry of everyone is for speedy dispensation of justice; all hands must be on deck to ensure that cases are not unduly delayed.”

He, however, noted that justice could not be speedily dispensed without comfortable office and residential accommodation for the judges and staff of the judiciary.

In his speech, Wada said the people and government of Kogi were happy with the inauguration of the complex.

He commended Justice Ibrahim Auta of the Federal High Court, Abuja, for his outstanding leadership qualities and promotion of cordial relationship between the Bar and the Bench.

Earlier, Auta assured that the Federal High Court and its judges and staff would continue to offer robust adjudication and high calibre service.

“In our efforts to ensure that we eliminate delays in the court, I have issued the Practice Direction with regard to payment of penalty fees for late filing of processes.

“There is also a criminal procedure to take care of offences like rape, kidnapping etc,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the complex has two courtrooms and chambers with a number of offices for staff. (NAN)
