Falcons Face Sierra Leone Challenge in the Race for 2014 AWC.

Nigeria’s senior women national team ‘Super Falcons’ play Sierra Leone next year in the placement race for the 9th edition of the African Women Championships tagged Namibia 2014.

Nigeria hosts West African neighbours Sierra Leone first, in the weekend of 13, 14 or 15 February 2014 and then embark on a trip to Freetown for the return fixture in the weekend of 28 February, 01 or 02 March.

At the draw for the qualifiers conducted recently in Cairo, the Confederation of African Football (Caf) disclosed that the winners of the first round tie proceeds into the final qualifying round.

Defending champions Equatorial Guinea, runner-ups and third-place match winners South Africa and Cameroon respectively, have all been drawn bye for the first round and will only join the qualifiers for the second round.

According to Caf, a record 25 teams have entered for the race for the 2014 tournament out of which seven will make it to the AWC finale, which begins from October 11 through 25, 2014.

The 2014 AWC also serves as qualifier for the 2015 Fifa Women’s World Cup billed for Canada.
