Vice-President Namadi Sambo has called on Nigerians to be their brother’s keeper for peace to reign in the country.

Sambo made the call on Friday at the National Mosque, Abuja, shortly after a special Friday prayer session, to commemorate Nigeria’s 53rd independence anniversary.

He prayed for the continued guidance and protection of the president and other leaders in the country.

He also prayed that God would give the country’s leaders the wisdom and strength to continue to pilot the affairs of the nation in the right path for peace and development.

”We pray to Allah to continue to protect our leader, protect our president and to continue to guide him, to allow peace to reign in Nigeria, to continue to give our leaders the wisdom, the strength to put Nigeria in the right path of progress and development of this country.’’

In his sermon, the Presiding Imam, Sheikh Shehu Onidewura, extolled the virtues of the nation’s founding fathers.

He recalled that despite the challenges of their time, they were able to weather the storm by entrenching peace and unity in the country.

He prayed for peace, harmony and the prosperity of Nigeria.

The Imam, however, decried the recurring acts of violence being carried out in the name of religion by misguided elements and prayed for an end to the carnage.

The Governors of Nassarawa and Yobe states, Alhaji Tanko Almakura and Alhaji Ibrahim Geidam, and the Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, Chief of Defence Staff, Ola Sa’ad Ibrahim, the Inspector-General of Police, Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar, and the Minister of FCT, Sen. Bala Mohammed, participated in the prayer session.

Also at the prayer was the Minister of Special Duties, Alhaji Tanimu Turaki, and Minister of State Finance, Alhaji Yarima Ngama. (NAN)
