For the second time in less than a year, a member representing Kafur/Malumfashi federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Alhaji Ibrahim Babangida Mahuta, on Friday narrowly escaped death in Katsina when some political thugs from his constituency attacked him at a public function in Masari town, which is located at Kafur local government area of Katsina State.
The federal lawmaker, during the last public hearing on the constitutional review, was also attacked by aggrieved youths in his constituency over his alleged abandonment since he won election to represent them at the National Assembly.
This time, the lawmaker was in Kafur to attend the wedding ceremony of the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari’s daughter last Friday when he was attacked.
Rep Mahuta’s ‘sins’, it was gathered, was not unconnected with reasons why he was attacked in the past by members of his constituent.
It was learnt that his attackers openly insulted him for abandoning his people and accused him of hardly ever visiting his constituency.
“The lawmaker was seriously beaten by the mob. They tore his clothes and he was half naked when some armed policemen quickly intervened and rescued him from the angry thugs. He was whisked to Malumfashi police station where he was kept for a while before (he was) escorted out of the town by heavily armed policemen,” a witness revealed.
Democracy in action. That is accountability framework.
No. This is not democracy. That is thuggery ! The police must protect every citizen including the embattled law maker
