Okagbare, Leads Team Nigeria to IAAF World Championships in Moscow.

Blessing Okagbare will lead Nigeria’s 20-member delegation to the 14th IAAF World Championships starting August 10 in Moscow, Russia.

The Technical Director of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, (AFN) Navy Commodore Omatseye Nesiama, while unveiling the list on Wednesday said Nigeria will compete in the country’s area of specialties, such as the men and women sprint, the relay and the quarter mile.

Okagbare, contends for medals in the women’s 100m, 200m and the Long Jump while fellow sprinters Gloria Asumnu and Stephanie Kalu, who will join her in the 4×100m relay, were entered for the 100m. Uko Peace completes Nigeria’s relay quartet.

The quarter-milers in the team includes Regina George, Omolara Omotosho, Patience Okon and Josephine Ehigie. Ajoke Odumosu and Ugonna Ndu were also listed for the quarter mile while Ibukun Mayungbe and Bukola Abogunloko are for the 4×400m relay alone.

Nigeria’s fastest man, Ogho-Oghene Egwero, who will compete in the 100m event, is among the eight male athletes listed for Moscow. Noah Akwu will try his luck in the 200m and the 400m.

Other none quarter-milers in the invited male runners are Tosin Oke (triple Jump) and Momoh Leoman (800m)

Gerard Odeka, Tobi Ogunmola, Isah Salihu and Abiola Onakoya completed Nigeria’s squad for Moscow.

Los Angeles ’84 bronze medalist in the 4x400m, Sunday Uti, experienced quarter-mile trainer, Tony Osheku, national long jump record holder, Yussuf Alli are among the coaches leading the Nigeria team to Moscow.
