Cristiano Ronaldo restored the lead for Carlo Ancelotti’s side just after the half-hour mark with a superb free-kick from 25 yards and doubled the tally with a header in the 57th minute.

But Mourinho felt it pointless to hamper much ado on the defeat stressing that the game was a positive step to preparing for the new season.

“For me, it’s perfect we made mistakes so that we have them to work on,” Mourinho told Chelsea’s official website. “As I said last week, we had five victories in pre-season and zero points. Now we have five victories and one defeat, we still have zero points, it’s not a drama.

“They play in La Liga, we play in the Premier League, if we meet them in the Champions League and lose it’s a different story but a summer tournament is a summer tournament.”

Meanwhile, midfielder Franck Lampard played his first match since Mourinho returned from Real last June, finishing the first 45 minutes of the encounter. Prior to the match, he had missed all of Chelsea’s pre-season matches due to a troublesome achilles injury.

Chelsea will play AS Roma in their next match.
