Super Eagles midfielder Sunday Mba sees his selection in this year’s Goal 50 as a profile booster and hopes it goes as far as helping him secure a move to a favourable European club.

Mba, who is included at number 24 in Goal’s countdown of the finest players of 2012/13, expressed delight saying:

“I am on top of the world to hear this. It is a thing of joy to me. It is not easy for me to make Goal 50. It will really go a long way to push my football career forward. I am so happy about that.

“The feeling within me now is of fulfillment, that I have made my country and family proud with this recognition,” he told goal.com.

Mba’s performance at the 2013 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) has already made him a household name in many parts of the country. Being the revelation of the tournament, he’s followed it up with a trip to Brazil for the Confederations Cup.

His goals against Ivory Coast (in the quarter-finals) and Burkina Faso (in the finals) helped Nigeria to a third AFCON title in as many years.

The Warri Wolves midfielder was linked with a move to Arsenal after the 2013 AFCON, but a contract wrangle with his club put paid to his ambitions of playing in Europe.

“It means more hard work for me from now on in order to maintain the tempo and expectations from not only Nigeria but the world at large. I hope to continue in this way to make my fans happy,” Mba added.

After several contract scuffles, Wolves finally allowed Mba to play for Enugu Rangers on a season-long loan deal, after which he hopes to secure a permanent move , with La Liga his preferred destination.
