We don’t mean to make mountains out of ant hills, but…

The Roanoke Times reports on the fate of 59-year-old Lewis Wyrick, whose car went “off the road, up an embankment, rolled upside down, then slid back down the embankment into a ditch” before coming to rest about 20 feet from the road — on top of an ant hill.

Wyrick was driving too fast just after 5 p.m. on Sunday when the accident happened, according to the newspaper. The road, Interstate 81, was backed up from an earlier accident.

Virginia State Police Senior Trooper Gary Chafin told the Times that Wyrick swerved from the right lane into the left after realizing he couldn’t stop in time. This launched his 1997 Toyota Camry into an unfortunate trajectory that ended with “lacerations, head and back injuries, and numerous ant bites” — all of which he is recovering from, according to the Associated Press — in addition to a charge of reckless driving.
