David Luiz has reportedly told Jose Mourinho he favours the move to Barcelona a week before the start of the new season, according to reports in Spain.

Luis is a top target for new Barca manager Gerardo Martino as he bids to strengthen the Catalans’ defense.

On Tuesday, Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo claimed Barcelona’s initial £25m bid for the Brazil centre-back- which was out-rightly dismissed- has motivated the player to inform the west London club of his desire to join his Brazil teammate Dani Alves at the Nou Camp.

And Barca is now prepared to raise their offer to £31m- £12m short of Chelsea’s evaluation- after learning about the player’s stance.

Alves has added voice to the plot to lure Luiz to the La Liga Champions, but admits he can’t see Mourinho letting go easily.

“The problem is not whether he wants to come, but that in the end you have to get away from Mourinho- and that is not going to be easy,” Alvez, who was speaking on international duty this week, said.

“The idea of facilitating David Luiz coming to Barca would not pass through his head, and even less if it is to strengthen us. It is more than difficult for us, almost impossible.”

Should Martino fail to sign Luis, who signed for the Stamford Bridge outfit from Benfica in 2011for £21m, he would turn his attention to Liverpool’s Daniel Agger as a cheaper alternative.

  1. This is a total display of greediness. You cannot allow Fabregas to move to Man U, which would have made easier for Chelsea to get Rooney, but you want to take away Luiz.

Football is all about give and take. Give and you shall receive.
