Lagos ITTF Classics: Oshonaike and Assar Crashes Out of the Missed Doubles as Knockout Stage Begins.

The knockout stage of the first Lagos International Table Tennis Classics bats off today after the conclusion of the group matches in the men’s and women’s singles.

On Wednesday, Africa’s number one seed in the mixed doubles, Egypt Omar Assar and Nigeria’s Funke Oshonaike failed to progress into the next round, losing 2-11, 11-8, 12-10, 12-10 to the Nigerian duo of Olaide Atinuke and Seun Ajetumobi.

The men’s singles comprises of 16 groups while the women’s singles had 8 groups. The two top players in each group progresses to the round of 32 in the men’s singles and round of 16 in the women’s singles after a three-game group round. . Yet, all the seeded players progressed into the knockout stage in the singles.

The two upsets recorded in the singles group matches involved seeded players like Italy’s Mihai Bobocica and Nigeria’s Rashidat Ogundele who, despite losing a match each in a three-game series to Nigeria’s Sola Oyetayo and Bose Odunsanya, progresses to the round of 16.
