Kwara United Risks LMC Ban as Government Functionaries Take Charge.

Glo Premier League (NPL) side, Kwara United, is reportedly risking the wrath of the League Management Company (LMC) – the body in charge of the Nigerian league- after setting up a new management team to run the affairs of the club.

According to supersport.com, the Ilorin club is moving closer to ban by LMC for pushing aside the chairman of the Kwara United board, Barrister Bamidele Aluko, while the Chief of Staff to the Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Toyin Sanusi, heads the new management team.

The State Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Hajia Ramat Abaya, has also being included in the new management team. The team manager, Agboola Ibrahim Basambo, head coach, Samson Unuanel and club secretary, Olusola Shehu, are the other members of the new team.

Meanwhile, the development negates the rules governing the constitution of club management in the Premier League in Article 1.9 (4) which states that:

Government functionaries viz: Commissioners, Special Advisers, shall not be part of club management.

However, head of the new management team Sanusi told journalists at Government House, Ilorin, that the new management team was set up to reposition the team, adding that Aluko’s board will remain in an advisory position.

Chairman of the LMC, Nduka Irabor, claimed he is not privy to the reported development when contacted by supersport.com.

“We’re yet to be informed about any development at Kwara United,” Irabor said.

According to Article 1.9 (5), Kwara United risk suspension from the league if found guilty.

Aluko, who was appointed in 2012, is supposed to serve for four years based on Article 1.9 (2).

Kwara United are ranked 6th on the Glo Premier League log with 35 points from 23 games.
