Health Worker Allegedly Detained For Filming Policemen Harassing Okada Rider In Lagos

NPFAs citizen journalism gradually gains ground in Nigeria with appreciable level of successes recorded so far, discretion, should be the watch word as a health worker identified as Gregory Ekene Muonyililo, would soon learn.

Muonyililo, was arrested by policemen attached to the Area E command, Festac town, Lagos for allegedly attempting to video the law enforcement officers while trying to nab a commercial motorcyclist.

The health worker, who is a medical representative of a pharmaceutical company at Amuwo Odofin, is purportedly still in detention in Festac.

Speaking on Muonyililo’s arrest, his brother, Onyeka narrated the incident thus:

“The policemen set up a checkpoint in front of his office yesterday (on Monday) and were harassing bike men. He went outside to get something and when he saw it happen, he started videoing it.

“Although he should have been more discreet, they saw him and became agitated. They collected his phone from him and after a few words, they collected the phone from him and left.”

Onyeka said the Policemen returned to his brother’s office at about 4 pm and whisked him away to the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS), Ikeja, where “he was detained and slept there.”

However, this account has been disputed by the state Police Public Relations Spokesperson, Ngozi Braide, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), who denied that the policemen were asking the commercial motorcyclist for gratification.

She also denied that the victim was taken to SARS but the X-Squad department where he is currently being quizzed.
