Glo NPL Week 23 Results: Wolves Keep Title Hopes Alive, Sharks Ease Off Relegation.

Kano Pillars remain top of the Glo Nigeria Premier League log after week 23 matches which saw Warri Wolves close gap within 2 points of their reach with the defending champions having a game in hand as a result of Thursday’s accident.

On Saturday, Dolphins beat ABS 2-0 at the Liberation Stadium, Port Harcourt to move to third position on the league standings. Omo Johnson scored the opening goal in the 41st minute on his debut, following the mid-season switch from Wolves before Emeka Atuloma increased the tally 9 minutes from full-time.

Dolphins are currently third on the NPL standings with 36 points from 23 matches.

In Ilorin, Kwara United were held to a goalless draw by Sharks of Port Harcourt who moved up to 18th position in their bid to avoid relegation. Goalkeeper Chijioke Ejiogu denied the home team any winning chance as the Blue Angels have now racked up 27 points from 23 games.

Head coach Gbenga Odugbote was delighted after the match and he told supersport.com that:

We played to our strength. The boys were composed and showed in the way they played today (Saturday). Now they are believing that it is possible to escape relegation.

Among the seven matches played on Sunday struggling Ibadan club, 3SC lost by a lone goal away to Lobi Stars at the Emmanuel Atongo Stadium, Markudi. The Oluyole Warlord conceded the decisive goal in the 74th minute, when substitute Barnabas Imenger Jn. scored after five minutes on the pitch.

Coach Hakeem Busari-led 3SC have now descended to the relegation zone, 17th on the table with 27 points from 22 games. Lobi moved up to 14th place with 29 points from 23 matches.

Wolves beat Enugu Rangers 1-0 at the Warri City Stadium on Sunday to keep title hopes alive. Oghene Karo scored the winning goal in the 26th minute to help increase the Warri club’s point haul to 37 from 23 games.

Nasarawa United lost 1-0 to Nembe City at the Samson Siasia Stadium Yenagoa as Wikki Tourists defeated Bayelsa United 1-0 in Bauchi through an 87th minute Ahmed Usman strike.

Kaduna United emerge a 1-0 winner against Heartland FC at the Kaduna Township Stadium, thanks to an Ndubuisi Ekwuribe’s 22nd minute strike.

At the Pantami Stadium, Gombe United won Sunshine Stars of Akure by two goals.
