FG Can’t Meet ASUU’s Demands, Says Okonjo-Iweala

Published

on

Ngozi-Okonjo-Iweala2If the words of the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala are to be believed, the five-week old strike action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) may not be resolved anytime soon as she declared that government has no resources to meet the union’s demands.

Speaking earlier today in Minna at the annual National Council on Finance and Economic Development meeting with theme, “Restructuring Nigeria’s Finances”, Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala explained that the striking university lecturers were asking for N92 billion in extra allowances; an obligation the Federal Government cannot meet as it moves to reduce the structure of public expenditures.

According to the coordinating minister for the economy, “At present ASUU wants the government to pay N92 billion in extra allowances when resources are not there and when we are working to integrate past increases in pensions. We need to make choices in this country as we are getting to the stage where recurrent expenditures take the bulk of our resources and people get paid but can do no work.”

She argued that if the demands of the striking lecturers are met and “we continue to pay them salaries and allowances, we will not be able to provide infrastructure in the universities.”

The minister noted that when she assumed office “the share of recurrent expenditure in our total budgets had increased astronomically. “

“In fact recurrent expenditures accounted for about 77.2 per cent of the federal budget and we are now working to re-balance this ratio,” she added.

The FG is like a husband married to many wives. The husband must strive to meet the needs of his wives. Moreover, the husband is also a careless that he has allowed himself to be jilted & robbed by selfish relatives & associates. So the husband is now complaining of low fund.whose fault is this?

That’s simple enough… Since the government is cutting costs on everything e.g. Subsidy… And also privatization of Companies… I suggest the salaries of all political appointees and the President, Governors their bonuses be slashed in order to balance the Nations books so that ASUU’s demands would be met. Common sense!

ASUU as a union contributes nothing positive to the nigerian universities…. Their demands are outrageous… The worst of its wickedness to nigerians is their demand for the increment of retirement age for professors while many youths are crying that dey re unemployed…. ASUU as a union is simply unpatriotic.

What qualities make ASUU members better than ASUP. If the FG did not grant the demands of polytecnic lecturers (ASUP), why should that of university lecturers (ASUU) be granted. Ngozi has just revealed that what ASUU wants is increment in salary that is already far higher than polytechnics and not increased funding for decaying education as they have been claiming. Even if FG increases funding, corruption among ASUU members and university administrators had been responsible for misappropriation of such funds. So, who is fooling who. ASUU should stop holding Nigeria to ransom because of their selfish demands. Those who claims politicians are earning fattter salaries should go and join politics

Criticaly reasoning, Asuu is a selfish union who seeks to satisfy themselves irrespective of what it will do to national income. Why are they always demanding? Are they the only union

Nigeria as a great nation blessed with milk and honey, the question now is ‘ where does this milk and honey flow?”. the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer which is an injustice for those trying to make a living (students). Only GOD can intervene as at when due.

It is as if we all came here to debate, some speaking for ASUU while others are speaking for the FG. I dont think we can afford to handle this issue with levity considering the damage it stand to cause. ALL stand to say is that every one responsible should do the right thing and see that students return to school, period

What is Dr Ngozi really saying? If the president can be allocated N1b. as feedins allowance, what is N92b for a whole country’s university lecturers? There is a common saying among us Nigerians ‘Eye when dey cry, dey see’. Though ASUU could be said to being too strict, considering the poor Nigerian students, but there is no way the FG could be justified in the ASUU’s action; because what is benefit of labouring to produce graduates to be tagged as ‘not marketable’ or ‘half baked’ or ‘semi literate’? Though ASUU is being patrotic in some of its demand, like the retiring of profs., but 95% of problem lies with the FG. Something positive needed to be done, before any worse unanticipated voilence escalate from these strike actions. Already, ASUP is now warming up from where they paused.

Hi! Without any doubtful mind, Nigeria is indeed a peculiar Nation in the sight of the Almighty Creator of Heaven and Earth and we need to actualize this fact by living together in Peace and Unity, and not in conflict and conspiracy! To achieve this precept sincerely, we don’t have the audacity/right to judge any of the two official bodies lest we get judged by Heavenly Supremacy bcos they were actually established for a certain purpose! Believe this: all you need to do is to strive earnestly for the absolute manifestation of God’s Plan for this Blessed Nation and lets stop deceiving ourselves on the wrong path! Remember, the way U make use of your Integrity today will definitely ascertain where your Future will be positioned tomorrow! Try your Possible Best in making Reasonable Things germinate all through the main cardinal points of Nigeria in Genuine Love and Patriotism! Wishing Nigeria an extra-fortified brighter future ahead! God Bless Nigeria as a Nation!! God Bless U and I also…

“Oke Wasn’t Killed By Stray Bullet, He Was Stabbed By Thugs” - Brother Claims
Oke

Oke

Information Nigeria recalls a graphics designer identified as Oke, was killed hours after tweeting “Nigeria will not kill me” on Wednesday.

It was reported that the young man had passed away after he was hit by a stray bullet.

The deceased’s younger brother, Daniel has come out to clear the air regarding the circumstances leading to his death.

Daniel revealed his brother was stabbed on the neck by thugs who infiltrated and ransacked their home.

In his words;

Good day, My name is Obi-Enadhuze Daniel younger brother of the now deceased Okechukwu Obi-Enadhuze @O_Okee . I, my brother and mother lived at makinde police barracks, mafoluku, Oshodi, Lagos State.

Today at about 11 o’clock in the morning the police station at makinde was attacked by thugs who wanted to destroy the station, I my mom and brother were holed up in our house.

The attack went on for hours before the thugs eventually breached the police and proceeded to set the station on fire, after accomplishing this they set their sights to the barracks and began the assault, they proceeded to destroy every car in the barracks, my mom’s 2 cars where destroyed and set on fire and then they infiltrated our house by breaking the door they then proceeded to ransack the house and carted away with everything we own.

my brother on trying to get them to take everything but spare us was pushed to my mom’s room and stabbed on the neck, the attacker then proceeded to attack me but missed my neck but got my chin instead, after this my mom and I carried my brothers body to the entrance of the station soliciting for help from the thugs still ravaging the barracks, we were finally able to put him in a wheelbarrow and took him to a hospital where he was rejected because “he was already dead” unfazed we moved him to another hospital where he met the same treatment this was where he bled his last drops of blood and died, his body has now been moved to a morgue

we have lost every single thing we own, as our house was completely ransacked and set on fire the only thing left is my brothers phone and at about 8 o’clock this evening the barracks was still on fire but Okechukwu has paid with the ultimate price

I and my mother are homeless with nothing now but we’re safe for now, we thank everyone that has been able to reach out to us, and were able to share consoling words with us in these trying times, God bless you

While we were holed up in the house the three of us said these words together and we say it again ” THREE OF US ARE HERE, THREE OF US ARE TOGETHER, THREE OF US ARE SAFE”

Let it be known that my brother @O_Okee  was NOT killed by a police bullet but died a hero protecting my mother and I.

If you see this please retweet, let the world know how Okechukwu died. He was NOT killed by a police bullet but thugs in his home!”

Youths Burn Down Gov Sanwo-Olu’s Mother’s House In Lagos (VIDEO)Lagos youths have set the family house of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on fire.

This was after the Governor said that no nobody was killed during the shooting by soldiers at Lekki Toll Gate on Tuesday night.

Sanwo-Olu had debunked claims that the soldiers opened fire and killed some peaceful protesters.

Recall that men of the Nigerian Army reportedly opened fire on protesters following the declaration of 24 hours curfew by the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwolu.

Bullets fired by security operatives hit some persons and at least two persons have been confirmed killed by the police and many injured

Voices in viral footage blamed the shootings on soldiers.

However, the angry youth attacked several important places such as Nigeria Port Authority, TVC News, and the family house of the Governor where his mother resides.
