The Presidential Committee on Dialogue and Conflict Resolution in the North on Friday met Yoruba leaders under the aegis of Yoruba Unity Forum (YUF) to discuss the issues bordering on insecurity in Nigeria.

Minister for Special Duties and Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Kabir Taminu Turaki (SAN), who spoke to journalists after the closed-door meeting, said the meeting was part of efforts at finding solution to insecurity in the country.

He said the meeting was to rub minds with Yoruba leaders on the issue, assuring that their input would form part of their recommendations.

Turaki stated that the Federal Government was serious about ending the Boko Haram menace within the shortest time possible, adding that the committee’s greatest challenge in the course of the assignment was locating the insurgents, as members of the dreaded group feared they might be arrested.

He, however, said they have been able to record tremendous achievements that would help the government in tackling insurgency.

He also assured that the government would compensate the victims for losses incurred.

Also speaking after the meeting, Publicity secretary of YUF, Dr Kunle Olajide said Yorubas want a national conference to address some of the challenges facing the country.

He hinged this on the fact that Nigerians should be able to discuss the way and manner they want to live together. He added that the Federal Government must compensate victims of the Boko Haram menace.

Olajide noted that criminals needed to be dealt with, so that an end could be put to insurgency across the country, just as he called for speedy implementation of the committee’s report .

YUF Deputy leader, Bishop Bolanle Gbonigi, also commended President Goodluck Jonathan for his peace initiatives.
