Why My Administration Shuns Media Publicity, By Gov. Chime

Sullivan-ChimeGovernor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State has disclosed reasons why his administration is not a fan of advertizing its achievements in the media as he explained that the best publicity his administration could get was from people of Enugu who are beneficiaries of the various developmental projects executed by the government.

It would be recalled that shortly after he was sworn-in as governor, Barr. Chime had told journalists that part of the problems his predecessor faced was created by the media hence he would rather keep the activities of his government away from them (media).

Gov. Chime, who made this known while addressing guests during a dinner party for the members of class of 1980, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Law Faculty and some of their lecturers at the weekend, said, “Government is not about us but about the people and once we forget ourselves and our pockets and concentrate of solving the problems of the people, then we are sure to achieve a lot for our people.”

The governor traced the successes of his administration to prudent management of resources and a clear vision of the problems and needs of the people.

Chime also used the event to dispel the notion held in some quarters that his government was borrowing money to finance the many notable projects in the state as he explained, “We have not been borrowing to do projects in Enugu State. It is just that we always know where and how to apply money as it comes. Before we receive any money, we already know where it is going and what projects or programmes it would be used to execute.”
