As the National Sports Commission (NSC) gears up for the 2014 Commonwealth Games, Sports Minister, Bolaji Abdullahi, who is also the Chairman of NSC, has challenged various sports federations to come up with programmes capable of increasing Nigeria’s medal haul at the event.

In the light of the meeting held with officials of Sports federations on Thursday, the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF) has tendered an estimated sum of N113m to the National Sports Commission (NSC) as its budget for next year’s Commonwealth Games billed for Glasgow, Scotland.

According to Thisday Sports, NWF, headed by a Sydney Olympic freestyle wrestling gold medalist (for Canada), Daniel Igali, has proposed that about N38m of the costs will be devoted towards holding a training camp in Bayelsa State.

Abdullahi however remains unsatisfied with Team Nigeria’s performance at the previous Commonwealth Games in India, where they could only manage 35 medals which he claim isn’t good enough.
