PDP Faction Frowns At NASS ‘Hasty’ Take Over Of Rivers State House of Assembly •Accuses Amaechi Of Buying Public Sympathy With State Funds

Ameachi-RiversThe Rivers State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has berated the National Assembly for what it termed their ‘hasty’ decision to take over the functions of the state House of Assembly even while efforts were being made to resolve the fracas.

The PDP’s position was contained in a statement on Friday by the Felix Obuah-led faction of the party which is considered antagonistic towards Governor Rotimi Amaechi and the 27 state lawmakers in his support.

The statement which was signed and issued to newsmen by the former Rivers State Publicity Secretary of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), now media assistant to the PDP factional chairman, Jerry Needam, lampooned the Federal legislators and described their intervention as unnecessary.

Mr. Needam also alleged that Governor Amaechi bought the support he had obtained from a cross section of Nigerians with the state’s funds.

According to the PDP: “We are particularly worried because in all of this, it’s the resources of the state and the tax payers’ money that Governor Amaechi is frittering away to woo supporters for his personal ambition to become a vice president at the expense of the state.

“The unanswered question remains what interest these National Assembly members and Amaechi’s friends have in Rivers State that they should close their eyes to all manner of atrocities and restiveness in their respective states and senatorial districts to want to proffer quick solution to the selfishly motivated crisis in Rivers State,” the statement said.
