List Of Senators Who Voted In Favour To Legalize Underage Marriage In Nigeria

Published

on

We now know how senators voted on the constitution amendment bill which caused an uproar in the senate on Tuesday.

yerima-under-age-marriage-495x371-300x224

The part up for ammendment relates to persons qualifies to renounce Nigerian citizenship. The constitution in Section 29 says anyone of age can do so.

Section 29(4) (b) says that ” any woman who is married shall be deemed to be of full age.” It means that even a child if married can be seen to be of full age and as such can renounce citizenship. The committee proposed that that provision be deleted.

When it was put to vote, 2/3 of members present voted for it which meant it was deleted. 2

Senator Yerima had kicked and mobilised his fellow Muslims in the Senate which was threatening to cause confusion. Despite the senate president, David Mark insisting that it could no longer be revisited as it had been voted upon, Yerima continued his objection.

Due to the sensitive nature, Mark had to call for another vote. At this point the Senators who were in favour of this clause could no longer muster 2/3 of the votes that will retain Section 29, Clause 4 (b). Senators still voted 60 votes to 35 votes for the clause to be deleted, but it did not satisfy the 2/3 requirement and so, according to the senate version, “any woman who is married shall be deemed to be of full age.”

Thanks to Sen. Babafemi Ojudu (Ekiti Central, ACN), we have the full list of the senators who voted NO)

The senators who voted NO, that is those who did not want the clause deleted, include the following:

One shouldn’t be surprised @ all. Take a careful look @ d List.
Note d State they come from.
Put it side by side with where most Almajiris come from.
    What do u have?
Now, if girls b4 d age of 18 produce children, u can imagine which region will have d MOST people of Voting Rights in 18 years to come. U can imagine d high rise of d level of illitracy, diseases, ignorance, disasters, “Boko Harams” etc…etc in that region!!! *And come to think of it, d Senators in d Region have greatly improvised their people 2 d level that d people can not sustain, educate, care and guide their children up 2 d age of 18, hence, their desire 2 marry d tender innocent girls away while d daughters of d Senators get d best in life and thereafter turn back 2 become very highly placed in d society thereby making d little innocent girls and their children SLAVES. Thereby widenning d gap btwn haves and have not. Very soon….very very soon REVOLUTION will sweep all of them off to oblivion*

      Bridget,

It seems you do not know how to read. Look at the actual list that was submitted. Almost every senator from the south voted YES. Most of the ones that voted NO were actually from the North.

You seem to be among the foolish Nigerians that like to blame everything wrong with Nigeria to Northerners, when really the problem is with all the politicians from both North and South. While people like you point blame at others, the politicians are sitting back in their air conditioned homes laughing at you. Open your eyes and look at the bigger picture!!

Mr commentator:Under islamic law, when girls are married underaged, their respective husbands are not allowed to be close to them till they reach maturity.Maturity varies from individuals to individuals depending on the exposure to errotic and lustful acts making the hormones and body system multiply and yield. So its possible girls reach 28 years to start menstruation as it is in the olden days.Nonetheless,Nigeria is just 138 million people(2008 estimate) which is one tenth of chinas 1.33 billion people(2008 estimate) who has never gone ravenous nor famine!.Undoubtedly,Nigeria has 0.0186 percent of world oil reserve and china just have 0.0138 percent of the reserve despite their frugality and parsimony!.Nigeria now have 10.5million kids out of school(2013,UNESCO) and about 70 million nigerians are in poverty-world bank.Depopulating the populated nation should not be the point of view, rather the economy should be looked into, thus providing literates, curbing diseases, awareness, success, and halals(pure minds) in the region!.

While still in a mourning state, actress Iyabo Ojo has revealed that she just found out her mum, Mrs Victoria olubunmi Fetuga lied about being aged 67 years.

Mrs Victoria olubunmi Fetuga was aged 67 and a three generation photo shoot was organized by Iyabo Ojo in her honor, three months ago to celebrate.

Posting an Instagram video of her late mum dancing on her last birthday, Iyabo Ojo moments ago wrote;

“O my sweet mother even in your death you made me laugh so hard this morning. I just found out from her siblings that she was 69 years old and not 67, as she always claimed.

She didn’t want us to know she was older than my late dad who would have been 68! 😀😃😅😅🤣🤣 she could have claimed his age at least but no, she wanted us to believe she was much younger hence the 2 years gap. Gosh! No wonder she never wanted any birthday party🤣

Cant wrap my head around the fact that she is gone 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 I love you too much mama, Continue to rest on……..”
