Lagos vows to demolish houses built on pipeline

Lagos State Government has said it will soon embark on the demolition of illegal buildings erected on petroleum pipelines across the state to avert possible loss of lives and property.

Fashola-Speaking-300x200Lagos State Commissioner For Environment, Mr. Tunji Bello who disclosed this on Saturday during the July edition of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise monitored in Idimu–Egbe Local Council Development Area, said the building of houses in pipeline alignment poses danger to lives.

He said, “We will not fold our hand and watch these illegal buildings on pipeline. A lot of demolition on houses on pipeline alignment will be done by the state government.”

The commissioner who frowned at the habit cultivated by some Lagos residents to be hanging their washed cloth in front of houses said the law enforcement agencies have been mandated to seal such houses he said had become eyesore in the state.

According to him, “Our men have started, we have told LAWMA and other agencies have been told to remove any cloths spread in front of the buildings or anywhere on the highway and dispose it like refuse henceforth.
