Lagos Chess Open Camping Gathers Momentum Ahead of Sports Festival.

The third phase of the Lagos State Chess Association (LSCA) open camping for improving players’ skills ahead of the 2013 national Sports Festival continues on Saturday 27.

Led by the Technical Director, Bayo Babalola, the coaching crew includes Rotimi Dasaolu and Jibola Olarenwaju who were also at the 2012 National Sports Festival hosted by Lagos States.

Six men and nine women have been shortlisted for the camping. The male players are: Dominic Udeme, Roland Dieyyi, Odun Martin, Tosin Akinwamide, Oloruntola Gbenga and Ojo John.

The women includes: Chinyere Ehirim, Aisha jimoh-Ibrahim, Tumininu Oyewole, Seun Olabisi and Oke Abiodun. Others are taiye Rodiyat Usman, Bolade Odugbesan and Yemi Osundinakin.

The players will be instructed on applying their mental abilities towards actual play, opening sequences, endgame and tactical exercises.

Technical Director, Babalola, said: “We have been holding this training program every month since the last three months.

“We are following the international manual on training and this will prepare the players for actual play, opening and endgame theories, as well as tactical exercises which is required to have a well rounded player.”

The LSCA last year introduced the Chess4Change Series aimed at discovering and nurturing talents in the state as well as introducing the game of Chess to young children in primary and secondary schools in Lagos State.
