Islam Converts Deny Being Harassed By Parents, Police, “Beg Forgiveness”

Bauchi — The Bauchi State Police Command and parents of a couple who recently converted to Islam have denied allegations of detaining and abducting them.

nigeria-police-logo_6Police Commissioner Mohammed Ladan and parents of the man denied the allegations at a press conference yesterday.

The conference was attended by the Bauchi State Head of Service, Mr Abdon Dala Gin, father of the man, who converted to Islam, Mr Yibzan Dala Gin, chairman, Bauchi State Sharia Commission, Mallam Mustafa Baba Ilelah, chief imam of Bauchi, Alhaji Bala Ahmed, representative of the imam of Gwallaga Juma’at mosque, chairman, Bauchi State Da’awah council, Dr Yusuf Mahmud and senior officers from the police, Sharia commission and family of the converts.

Ladan said, “Police did not detain them for 53 days as alleged and police did not know anything about their case until yesterday when they were brought before us”.

He said the allegations were fabricated by the converts, and advised parents to always watch the movement of their children.

Father of the man, Yibzan Gin, said he had no objection when his son converted to Islam, and that the only disagreement they had was when he brought a woman to his house as his wife. He added that when he questioned the relationship, his son left the house and started living on his own.

Chief imam of Bauchi, Alhaji Bala Ahmed, advised the parents of the couple to go back home and treat the matter as a family issue.

The man who converted to Islam, now called Yusuf, and wife Aisha denied that they were harassed by their parents or detained by the police as they earlier alleged and begged for forgiveness.
