House Of Reps Consider Upgrading Abia State Poly To Federal Status

House of RepsThe House of Representatives yesterday commenced the process of upgrading the status of the Abia State Polytechnic to a Federal Polytechnic.

This follows the adoption of a motion moved by Rep. Uzo Azubuike (PDP Abia), who lamented that the only federal presence in Aba are the Nigeria Police and Federal Prisons Service, despite teeming population of youths yearning to acquire tertiary education.

He told his colleagues that a total take-over of the existing Abia State Polytechnic by the Federal Government would ease the cost of infrastructural and human resources which a new institution will require before take-off.

According to him: “The presence of a federal polytechnic in Aba would enhance technological and industrial development of the ancient city. The huge capital requirements for the running of the current polytechnic had become enormous for the state government.

“The total absence of a federal polytechnic in Abia State while other state polytechnics have been taken over by the federal government is not only discriminatory but would retard the indigenous technical and industrial development of Nigeria,” he said.
