Argentinean forward Gonzalo Higuain arrived in Rome for a reported medical with Serie A runner-up Napoli on Wednesday.
The real Madrid striker was greeted by around 100 jubilant Napoli fans, waving club scarves and Argentina flags.
Arsenal was also interested in Higuain, but the 25-year-old is expected to complete a transfer to Napoli and link up with his new teammates at their training camp in Verona.
Financial details of the deal have not emerged yet but it has been rumoured to be £31.8m on a five-year contract worth £140,000 a week.
Napoli are also on the verge of signing Spain’s third choice goalkeeper Pepe Reina on loan from Liverpool after the player underwent a medical at the club earlier in the day.
