Newcastle striker Shola Ameobi was denied from featuring in the African Cup of Nations in South Africa. The Zaria-born footballer has again pledged his international future to the Super Eagles, declaring that the clause that prevented him from the biennial African soccer showpiece has now been rectified.
Dayo Enebi Achor, the Super Eagles scribe notified the head coach Stephen Keshi during lunch in Kaduna where the national team is currently preparing for the African Nation Championship (CHAN) tie against the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire.
“He said the clause has been removed and he will be ready to play for the Super eagles anytime he is called upon,” Achor said in a statement sent to journalists.
The Magpies’ longest serving professional was quoted as saying: “I will love to play for Nigeria under Stephen Keshi because he is a good coach; above all I am very proud to be a Nigerian and will always grab the opportunity to don the green white colours of my fatherland.”
Keshi who is reported to be delighted about the recent development and willing to discuss with the striker was quoted as saying: “he is no doubt a good player and the national team can make do with his experience anytime we call upon him.”
