From Rome to Paris: Edinson Cavani Finally Joins PSG.

Paris St Germain (PSG) have confirmed the signing of Uruguay international Edinson Cavani from Napoli for a reported £55m.

Cavani is expected to remain at the Parc des Princes Stadium until the summer of 2019.

“The transfer of Edinson Cavani is further proof of the club’s ability to attract the best players in the world,” said PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi.

“The player was seduced by the club’s sporting project and is delighted to be joining an ambitious side, impatient to take on new challenges.

“We are especially happy to present such a hugely coveted player of immense talent to our supporters.”

After finishing top scorer in the Italian Serie A last season, Cavani became the subject of many transfer speculations this summer with Chelsea, Manchester City and Real Madrid all interested in the 26-year-old.

PSG, who are backed by Qatar Sports Investments have been able to secure a move for the Uruguayan by luring him with the most expensive transfer deal in French football history, surpassing the £50m Monaco reportedly paid Atletico Madrid for Colombian striker Radamel Falcao.

Cavani’s move dragged on for a while with Napoli’s president Aurelio de Laurentiis believed to be holding out for a huge transfer fee that equals the club’s evaluation (buy-out clause).

The striker said he joined the French champions to challenge for “honours” and thanked Napoli for taking their time to sort out his move to Paris.

“I’d like to thank everyone who made this transfer possible, it’s a great project,” said Cavani.

“”I’d also like to thank the people in Napoli who went out of their way to make it possible.”

“I come here with lots of joy, lots of confidence, lots of hunger and lots of motivation to win major trophies.”

Cavani scored 78 league goals for the Rome club since moving from Palermo in the summer of 2010.
