AGN at war again! National treasurer asks court to stop Ibinabo

Nollywood actor  and National Treasurer of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN, Maradona Mikevine Johnson,  has asked  a Federal High Court in Lagos to restrain actress Ibinabo Fiberesima from further parading herself as the President of the guild.  AGN’s incorporated Trustees is also a defendant in the suit.

Meanwhile, Justice James Tsoho of the same court has adjourned till  October 16, 2013 for hearing, an earlier suit by another prominent actor, Emeka Ike, challenging the formation of an illegal government of National Unity to run the affairs of the guild.

He had also asked the court to interpret the 2007 constitution of the AGN as it relates to the tenure of Board of Trustees members, consisting of Prince Ifeanyi Dike, Emmanuel Oguguah, Murphy Stephen, Sunny Mc Don and Okey Mc Anthony.

They were said to have remained in office as board members since the guild was formally incorporated on July 13, 1999.

Johnson, on his part, is contending in his suit that while Justice Tsoho had in Ike’s suit ordered that the status quo should be maintained on the AGN issues pending the determination of the suit, that in flagrant disrespect for the subsisting order, the  incorporated trustees amended the 2007 Constitution of the AGN and replaced it with that of 2011, where they made themselves life members of the Board of Trustees.

According to him, further to the disobedience of a valid court order, on September 8, 2012 the trustees conducted a purported national election, where Fiberesima and others were elected as national officers of the guild.

He lamented that  Fiberesima and the purported board members have been going around deceiving and obtaining favours from corporate organisations, governments, ministries, government houses, parastatals, embassies and the public in the name of AGN.

He averred that the administration was greatly hampered by Fiberesima’s administration, who has started to dissolve state chapters nationwide with the view of conducting elections without due process.

Johnson is, therefore, seeking an order of court, declaring that the purported 2011 constitution of the guild is unlawful, and another order restraining Fiberesima from further laying claim to the guild’s presidency.

He further wants Fiberesima and members of the board to render an account of all the funds they have received in the name and on behalf of AGN. The defendants are yet to respond to the suit, while no date has been fixed for hearing.
