Carlo Ancelotti was confirmed as Jose Mourinho’s successor at Real Madrid on Tuesday after Los Blancos legend Zinedine Zidane had been speculatively touted to fill the Portuguese tactician’s shoes.

Nevertheless, the 54-year-old Italian has revealed he will be joined in the dugout by World Cup winner Zidane.

The new Real boss announced former Madrid midfielder Zidane, who he coached while at Juventus, will be alongside him with Englishman Paul Clement, who he worked with at PSG.

Zidane retired from active football after the 2006 Germany World Cup but has gone on to playing variety of roles with Real over the last four years and currently serves as Adidas ambassador.

“He has experience and he will be a very good assistant,” former PSG manager Ancelotti said.

The Frenchman was appointed advisor to Real president Florentino Perez back in 2009 and then took an advisory role under Mourinho before becoming Sporting Director- a role he later vacated due to difficult times with the Portuguese.

“Zidane will be beside me in the dugout. He only problem is that he can’t play,” Ancelotti joked.

“Zizou was a fantastic player, everybody knows him, now he has decided to be coach. I am very happy to work at his side,” he added. “He will be a very good assistant, along with my usual assistant Paul Clement.

“We have been to the training ground, it’s fantastic. Everything that we need is there. I think this is going to be very good project. I have the support of the club, the president and the fans, so I think this will be a very happy season for Real Madrid.”
