Thousands Of Supporters Storm Kano Airport To Welcome Lamido

Sule-LamidoIt was a tumultuous welcome yesterday for Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa state as thousands of supporters from the 27 local government areas of the state and other parts of Nigeria thronged the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) in Kano to welcome him after nearly four weeks of absence from the state.

The supporters, who trooped to the airport as early as 10:00am to welcome the governor in hundreds of buses with the inscription ‘Lamido/Amechi for 2015,’ gave the security men at the airport a hard time as human and vehicular traffic became almost uncontrollable.

Information Nigeria reports that Lamido, who had been on  holiday in Britain and America flew into the country during the week to attend the Rotimi Amaechi-led Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) meeting before holding other meetings in Abuja.

The plane carrying the governor touched down at the runway of the MAKIA at exactly 5:00pm to thunderous shouts of “Sai Lamido”.

The governor managed to meander his way through the surging crowd waving endlessly as he moved past them.

Governor Sule Lamido has often been touted as a contender for the 2015 presidential elections and yesterday’s incidence might just be a pointer to the fact that despite his playing coy on the subject matter, his associates might have started mobilizing support for his perceived ambition.
