“Our swimmers can make do with the swimming pool at the Teslim Balogun Stadium for now as we put heads together to make the one at the National Stadium functional.

“We are not going to allow the dilapidated facilities to remain at their present state any longer to avoid further deterioration,” Yakmut said.

The director noted that the rehabilitation works may take some time and as the Commonwealth Games billed for Glasgow, Scotland, in 2014 is underway, it is better swimmers make do with the available facility.

According to the Maintenance Officer at the National Stadium already dilapidated swimming pool, the facility had been in a bad state since 1999.

The officer, who chose to be anonymous added that it will take about three months to refurbish any of the three pools at the stadium.
