Eight-time French Open champion Rafael Nadal will step up his preparations for the grass court season in the BNP Paribas Tennis Classic at The Hurlingham club on Friday.
The two-time Wimbledon champion will meet Kei Nishikori of Japan, who is set to take on British number one Andy Murray at the exclusive west-London venue this afternoon.
“I am happy to play the event at the Hurlingham Club, especially as I haven’t played on grass since the French open,” Nadal said.
“Thank you for this opportunity, I’m looking forward to a great match.”
The All England Club on Wednesday decided to keep the 12-time Grand Slam champion at fifth seed ahead of Wimbledon and could face either of Murray, Roger Federer or Serb, Novak Djokovic as early as the quarter-finals of Wimbledon.
The decision, which has drawn criticism from some of the game’s pundits, is arguably caused by the Spaniard’s seven-month injury lay-off.
